PM Narendra Modi is actively overseeing the situation in Himachal Pradesh following severe rains and a cloudburst that have wreaked havoc in the region.
Sources confirmed on Thursday that Modi has instructed officials to provide all possible assistance to those affected as relief efforts intensify.
Tragically, authorities recovered two bodies, and over 50 people remain missing after multiple cloudbursts hit Kullu, Shimla, and Mandi districts.
The calamity has prompted the central government to deploy two additional battalions of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to aid in rescue and relief operations, as announced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu in Shimla.
In a high-level meeting to assess rescue and relief operations, Chief Minister Sukhu identified Rampur tehsil in Shimla, Padhar tehsil in Mandi, and Jaon in Nirmand village of Kullu as the worst affected areas.
The Army and the Air Force have been put on high alert in anticipation of any emergencies, as the Meteorological Department has forecasted continued heavy rainfall over the next 36 hours.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also been in direct communication with Chief Minister Sukhu to evaluate the situation.
Shah further assured full support from the Centre and emphasized the NDRF’s role in ongoing relief efforts.
As the Chief Minister visits the disaster-stricken areas, he reported that NDRF, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, Home Guard, and fire services teams are all engaged in intensive relief, search, and rescue operations.
Additionally, Union Minister and BJP President J P Nadda has spoken with Chief Minister Sukhu, offering full support from the Central government.
Nadda also reached out to former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, urging BJP workers to participate actively in the relief operations.
