Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a significant virtual meeting with the Advisory Board of WAVES (World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit), a global initiative aimed at positioning India as a leading entertainment hub.
The meeting brought together top professionals, creators, and industry leaders from across the world, who discussed strategies to elevate India’s creative and media economy.
The WAVES Summit, organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is a major step toward establishing India as a prominent global content creation center.
PM Modi emphasized the importance of this summit, which celebrates and amplifies the country’s cultural and creative industries.
PM Modi’s interaction with the Advisory Board marks a significant milestone in India’s journey to becoming a global leader in entertainment and creativity. During the meeting, he heard valuable input from eminent personalities from various sectors who shared ideas on enhancing India’s role in the global entertainment landscape.
The summit, running from February 5 to 9, 2025, features numerous industry leaders and stakeholders coming together to discuss innovation and collaboration in the creative fields.
In addition, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is launching the “Create in India Challenge, Season 1,” which includes various creative challenges designed to foster innovation in the entertainment sector.
The meeting included discussions with several renowned actors, musicians, and business leaders who are part of the WAVES Advisory Board. Among the prominent personalities present were actors Amitabh Bachchan, Diljit Dosanjh, Rajinikanth, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Chiranjeevi, Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, and Anupam Kher. In addition, music maestro AR Rahman participated in the discussions, contributing his insights on the future of India’s entertainment industry.
The Prime Minister also engaged with major business figures, including Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Mahindra & Mahindra Chairperson Anand Mahindra. Their involvement highlights the cross-sectoral support for WAVES and India’s aspirations to lead the global entertainment space.
During the meeting, PM Modi reiterated the significance of the creator economy, which is playing a pivotal role as India strives to achieve its goal of becoming a five trillion-dollar economy. He emphasized the energy and dynamism brought by young creators and innovators in the fields of entertainment, film, animation, and gaming.
Encouraging both established artists and emerging creators, the Prime Minister urged all members of India’s creative industry to participate in the WAVES Summit. He highlighted the opportunity for collaboration and growth that the summit presents, particularly for young professionals in the entertainment and technology sectors.
As part of WAVES 2025, the inaugural edition of the International Animation Filmmakers Competition (AFC) has been launched, attracting global talent in animation, VFX, AR-VR, and virtual production.
This initiative has quickly gained traction, solidifying its reputation as a premier platform for creative storytelling and technological innovation.
