Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said Sanand had earned global recognition as a hub of innovation and industrial growth ahead of his visit to Gujarat to inaugurate the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister described the inauguration as a landmark moment for India’s semiconductor manufacturing ambitions. He said the facility would support key sectors, including automotive, industrial, telecommunications, 5G and the Internet of Things.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the facility in Sanand, Ahmedabad district, on Saturday afternoon.
Built with an investment of over ₹7,500 crore under the India Semiconductor Mission, the CG Semi OSAT plant is among the first four semiconductor projects approved by the Centre and marks the beginning of commercial production.
The facility will offer end-to-end semiconductor assembly and testing services, including wafer sorting, assembly, testing, package design, failure analysis, test programme development, product characterisation and logistics support.
Once fully operational, it is expected to produce up to five billion semiconductor chips annually to meet growing demand across technology-driven industries.
State Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia said Gujarat was leading India’s semiconductor revolution under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
He noted that six of the country’s 12 approved semiconductor plants are being established in the state, with the CG Power Semicon facility becoming the third to enter production.
The inauguration is part of the Centre’s broader strategy to develop a domestic semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain.
