PM Modi Calls Andhra Steel Project A Game-Changer For Industry And Jobs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi characterised the massive integrated steel project by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India as a transformative step that will reshape Andhra Pradesh’s industrial landscape and accelerate its growth.

Referring to the foundation stone ceremony at Nakkapalli in Anakapalli district, he stated, “I congratulate Andhra Pradesh on this important milestone. The launch of this project marks the beginning of a world-class integrated steel plant that will further strengthen India’s steelmaking capabilities. It is a major milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s development journey and creates opportunities for its youth and positions the state at the forefront of industrial innovation. It will also strengthen India’s position as a global steel manufacturing leader.”

The initiative involves an estimated investment of Rs 1.35 lakh crore and will roll out in phases. The initial phase, with an investment of Rs 70,000 crore, will deliver an annual production capacity of 8.2 million tonnes, with production expected to begin in early 2029.

The event brought together senior leaders, including Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy, and IT Minister Nara Lokesh.

Kumaraswamy remarked that such large-scale ventures are essential for meeting India’s future steel requirements and demonstrate the effective blending of international expertise with domestic capabilities.

Employment Generation and Economic Impact

The project will create close to one lakh jobs, both directly and indirectly, significantly boosting employment and supporting regional economic expansion.

CM Naidu noted, “This project is another strong example of Andhra Pradesh’s status as a preferred investment destination and a reflection of strengthening global business confidence in our state. The Andhra Pradesh government is fully committed to supporting ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India in realising this investment that will drive growth, create jobs, and strengthen the state’s role in India’s industrial future.”

Lakshmi Mittal stated that the project represents a major achievement, reflecting a long-term commitment to India’s development and self-reliance.

He further pointed out that the plant will be among the most advanced in the country, benefitting from strong logistical connectivity to key raw material sources.

The company also entered into agreements with the state government to build a future-ready workforce through collaboration with the New Age Makers’ Institute of Technology, with a focus on advanced manufacturing skills and technological innovation.

Leaders observed that the initiative symbolises confidence in Andhra Pradesh’s capabilities and will play a crucial role in modernising India’s steel sector while supporting long-term industrial growth.
