PM Modi Assures Jammu And Kashmir After Supreme Court’s Landmark Ruling On Article 370

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the Supreme Court’s “historic” Article 370 judgment, declaring it a “resounding declaration of hope, progress, and unity” for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. In a post on X, issued shortly after the verdict, he reassured the people of the region of the government’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling their dreams.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the court’s decision constitutionally upholds the Parliament’s move on August 5, 2019, and sees it as a beacon of hope and a testament to India’s collective resolve for a stronger, more united nation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a key figure in the Article 370 decision, praised the PM’s leadership. He highlighted the restoration of rights for the poor and deprived, the end of separatism and stone-pelting, and the positive transformation in the region, echoing Modi’s commitment to lasting peace and comprehensive development in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The Supreme Court’s five-member Constitution Bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, upheld the center’s decision to revoke special status and bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370. The ruling deemed Article 370 a “temporary” provision, eliminating the need for special status. This move concluded the state’s unique constitutional status and directed the Election Commission to conduct polls by September 2024.
