PM Modi Arrives In Chennai To Launch Metro Corridor, Other Development Projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Chennai on Sunday to inaugurate a Metro rail corridor and launch several transport and infrastructure projects across Tamil Nadu. The visit marks his first trip to the city since Chief Minister Vijay’s government assumed office in the state.

Governor Rajendra Arlekar and Chief Minister Vijay welcomed the Prime Minister at Chennai airport. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and BJP leader Nainar Nagenthran were also present.

After arriving, PM Modi travelled by road to Porur Metro station, where crowds gathered to welcome him. He waved to people during the roadshow as the Tamil Nadu BJP organised a reception. Chief Minister Vijay followed PM Modi’s convoy in a separate car.

PM Modi and Vijay are set to travel together by Metro from Porur to Poonamallee along the new Poonamallee–Vadapalani corridor. PM Modi is also likely to interact with students and workers during the journey.

The government built the corridor at an estimated cost of ₹4,900 crore.

PM Modi will also inaugurate completed national highway projects and lay foundation stones for new road works worth around ₹3,700 crore. He will dedicate railway projects worth ₹750 crore to the nation.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate four infrastructure projects at Chennai Port to strengthen maritime facilities and expand cargo-handling capacity.

After the Metro programme, PM Modi will visit the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.

He will offer prayers at the Jalakandeswarar Temple on the campus and visit the institute’s Brain Research Centre.

PM Modi will then attend a programme at IIT Madras to inaugurate development projects and lay foundation stones for additional works across Tamil Nadu.

The visit covers urban transport, highways, railways, port facilities and research infrastructure. Authorities have deployed extensive security arrangements along the Prime Minister’s route and at programme venues across Chennai.
