PM Modi Announces Expansion Of India–EU Trilateral Projects Beyond Indo-Pacific

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described India’s partnership with the European Union as one for global good and announced that both sides will expand trilateral projects from the Indo-Pacific region to the Caribbean.

Addressing a joint press conference in New Delhi with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa, PM Modi said the expanded cooperation would support sustainable agriculture, clean energy initiatives and women’s empowerment.

The Prime Minister said India and the EU will work together to make the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) a key link in global trade and connectivity.

He noted that relations between India and the EU have made remarkable progress in recent years, driven by shared democratic values, economic synergy and strong people-to-people ties.

PM Modi highlighted the contribution of the Indian diaspora, noting that over 800,000 Indians living across European countries are actively contributing to their host societies.

Calling the visit historic, PM Modi recalled that EU leaders attended India’s Republic Day celebrations as chief guests for the first time.

He said bilateral trade between India and the EU currently stands at €180 billion, reflecting the growing depth of economic engagement.

The Prime Minister announced deeper collaboration in security and defence, including counter-terrorism, maritime security and cyber security, to strengthen a rules-based international order.

He further unveiled a new mobility framework for Indian students and professionals and announced the India–EU Free Trade Agreement, expected to boost manufacturing, market access and services cooperation.
