With the West Bengal Assembly elections approaching, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are likely to address several public meetings across the state on Saturday, intensifying campaign efforts ahead of polling.
According to the schedule released by the BJP’s state unit, the Prime Minister will begin his day with a rally in Purbasthali (Dakshin) constituency in East Burdwan district. He will then address another gathering in Jangipur in Murshidabad district.
PM Modi will conclude with a third meeting later in the afternoon at a location connecting the North and South Dinajpur districts.
At the same time, Amit Shah will be leading parallel campaign events for the party. His first rally is in Onda in Bankura district, after which he will travel to Chhatna for another address. He will conclude the day with a public meeting in Baghmundi in Purulia district.
On the other side, Mamata Banerjee will likely hold four rallies across different parts of the state. Her campaign trail includes stops in:
The intensive campaign schedule reflects the heightened political activity in the state as voting draws closer. The elections to the Assembly will take place in two phases later this month.
A day earlier, Amit Shah released the Bharatiya Janata Party’s election manifesto in Kolkata. It outlined key priorities such as action against infiltration and transparent recruitment processes. It also highlighted economic development and initiatives focused on women’s welfare.
Abhishek Banerjee of the All India Trinamool Congress criticised the BJP’s promises. He compared them to unrealistic financial schemes and questioned their feasibility.
With senior leaders from both sides actively campaigning, the contest in West Bengal will likely remain closely watched in the days leading up to polling.
