Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will lead a delegation to the United States on September 22 as trade negotiations between the two nations intensify.
The visit follows a significant thaw in bilateral relations and aims to expedite discussions toward a mutually beneficial trade pact.
During the previous visit of officials from the Office of the United States Trade Representative to India on September 16, the two sides held positive discussions on various aspects of the trade deal.
Both parties agreed to intensify efforts to achieve an early conclusion of the trade agreement.
“In continuation of these discussions, a delegation led by Commerce Minister Shri Piyush Goyal is visiting the United States for meetings with the US side on 22nd September 2025. The delegation plans to advance discussions with a view to achieving the early conclusion of a mutually beneficial Trade Agreement,” the Commerce Ministry said.
Earlier this week, India and the US held a high-level official meeting in New Delhi to reinforce trade cooperation. A team from the US, led by Brendan Lynch, Chief Negotiator for the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement, held detailed discussions with Indian officials led by Special Secretary (Commerce) Rajesh Agrawal.
The Commerce Ministry stated, “Acknowledging the enduring importance of bilateral trade between India and the US, the discussions were positive and forward-looking, covering various aspects of the trade deal. Both sides decided to intensify efforts to achieve an early conclusion of a mutually beneficial Trade Agreement.”
The Ministry highlighted that trade discussions are ongoing at several levels, with both India and the US approaching trade issues with a constructive and positive mindset.
Expectations of a trade deal have been strengthened by encouraging statements from US President Donald Trump. PM Narendra Modi has also signalled strong political support for reaching an agreement.
