Pimpri Chinchwad Police's Visible Policing Initiative
The visible policing initiative launched by the Pimpri Chinchwad Police in Pune, Maharashtra, has shown significant positive outcomes. Following the implementation of this initiative, there has been a noticeable reduction in criminal incidents, including dacoities, thefts, murders, and chain snatchings, compared to the previous year. This year has seen 576 cases registered so far, a decrease from the 678 cases reported last year.
Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Police, Vinoy Kumar Choube, shared that the visible policing initiative involved an augmentation of patrolling, facilitated by the acquisition of new vehicles. This strategy has not only contributed to timely citizen assistance but has also enhanced overall policing effectiveness. Analysis of the figures post-initiative indicates a substantial decline in crime incidents.
Addressing the shortage of vehicles in the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, funds were allocated for the acquisition of new vehicles. A total of 57 new vehicles have been purchased, strategically deployed at various locations to assist police personnel in maintaining law and order. These vehicles are stationed in both public areas and industrial zones.
Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choube emphasized deploying these vehicles at strategic spots rather than stationary police stations. Each police station is now accompanied by a senior police officer with three vehicles, ensuring their presence on roads and intersections. This move aims to reduce the response time in case of incidents, fostering a sense of security among the public and increasing trust in the police force. The visible policing approach is not only a practical measure for crime prevention but also fosters a shared responsibility for safety within the community.
