A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was lodged in the Delhi High Court, urging legal action against Sunita Kejriwal, the spouse of Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and several others.
The petition alleges their involvement in recording trial court proceedings during the Chief Minister’s address subsequent to his detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The PIL, filed by Delhi-based advocate Vaibhav Singh, petitions for the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe and file an FIR against individuals implicated in the alleged recording and dissemination of court proceedings.
Singh contends that these actions endangered the life of the trial court judge.
The petition specifically names Akshay Malhotra, social media user Nagrik-India Jeetega, Promila Gupta, Vineeta Jain, and Dr. Arunesh Kumar Yadav among those accused.
It argues that these individuals intentionally violated the Video Conferencing Rules laid out by the high court.
“Several members of the Aam Aadmi Party, in conjunction with members of other opposition parties, purportedly recorded audio and video of court proceedings with the deliberate aim to discredit and manipulate the judicial process,” the plea asserts.
The PIL alleges a premeditated conspiracy orchestrated by CM Kejriwal and his party affiliates to record and circulate the court proceedings.
It advocates for a thorough investigation to identify and penalize those accountable for the unauthorized recordings.
Additionally, the petition seeks repercussions for the alleged contemnors under the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971, as well as stringent penalties for contravening the Delhi High Court’s VC Rules 2021.
Furthermore, the plea calls for directives to social media platforms to curb unauthorized recordings and their dissemination.
It proposes penalties for any individual or entity that fails to comply with these directives.
