PIB Clears Confusion Over Image Of Deportation; Confirms It Involves Guatemala, Not India

On Wednesday, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) dismissed a misleading image circulating on social media that falsely claimed to show illegal Indian migrants being deported by the United States.

The image depicted individuals being handcuffed and their legs chained, which was incorrectly linked to India.

From Viral Hoax To Fact: PIB Image Exposes Guatemala Link

PIB clarified that the photo in question did not involve Indian nationals. Instead, it showed individuals being deported to Guatemala, not India.

Taking to X, PIB Fact Check posted, “A #Fake image is being shared on social media by many accounts with a claim that illegal Indian migrants have been handcuffed and their legs chained while being deported by US.”

“The image being shared in these posts does not pertain to Indians. Instead it shows those deported to Guatemala,” the post added.

The clarification followed the deportation of over 100 Indian nationals, who were allegedly living illegally in the US.

On Wednesday, several of them arrived at Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat.

A US military C-17 Globemaster aircraft carrying 104 Indian nationals landed in Amritsar, Punjab, on 5 February.

Earlier, Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal suggested that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should personally approach US President Donald Trump to address the issue of Indian deportations.

Dhaliwal, speaking to the media, confirmed that 104 Indians deported from the US arrived in Amritsar today. He added that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi considers US President Donald Trump a friend, he should address the deportation issue during their meeting.

“Modiji calls Trump (US President Donald Trump) his friend. I request PM Modi ji to speak to Trump to find a solution to this issue. 104 Indians deported from the US arrived at Amritsar today. Of 104 persons, around 30 people are from Punjab. All of them are in good health condition, Dhaliwal noted.
