People At The Core Of Governance; PM Modi Says As Rajnath Singh Reflects On Republic Values

On India’s 77th Republic Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the citizen-focused character of present-day governance.

He shared an article written by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh that examined the ethical and constitutional essence of the Indian Republic.

The article, titled ‘Our Democracy, For The People’, appeared in The Times of India. It reflected on democracy as a living moral responsibility rather than a mere political structure.

Responding to Singh’s post on X, PM Modi said citizens now stand at the core of governance.

He noted that the republic advances social justice and expands economic inclusion. He added that these efforts protect the constitutional vision of a welfare-oriented democracy.

Singh argued that a republic’s true strength does not rest only on military power or economic stature.

He wrote that compassion, protection, and empowerment of vulnerable citizens define democratic success.

He drew inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s idea of Antyodaya. The principle calls for uplifting the last person in society.

Singh described democracy as a commitment to dignity, equality, and justice for all.

The Defence Minister stressed that every citizen must feel heard and protected. He rooted this belief in India’s ancient wisdom and constitutional ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

Singh credited the Modi government with converting these values into action. He cited flagship welfare schemes as practical examples.

These included PM Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Jan Dhan Yojana, and Ujjwala Yojana.

He also highlighted initiatives in sanitation, nutrition, education, women’s empowerment, and direct benefit transfers.

He noted special support for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and marginalised groups.

According to Singh, these programmes widened opportunities and reduced exclusion. He contrasted this approach with earlier models that neglected the poorest sections.

The article also linked national security with social welfare. Singh wrote that a secure nation protects democratic freedoms. He said defence and compassion must advance together.

He concluded by urging deeper democratic engagement, transparency, ethical governance, and ecological responsibility. The message reinforced India’s pursuit of an inclusive, people-driven republic.
