Patiala Pitbull Attack: Woman Seriously Injured, Husband Hurt While Trying To Save Her

A couple reportedly sustained injuries after a pitbull attacked them while they were visiting a house in Patiala’s Ghuman Nagar to consider renting it.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening when Ankit Sabharwal and his wife, Shifali, arrived at the property accompanied by a real estate agent.

Ankit said the dog suddenly charged at his wife after the property gate opened.

According to his account, the pitbull bit Shifali repeatedly, leaving her with serious wounds on her arm and other areas.

Doctors subsequently admitted her to a private hospital, where medical staff performed surgery to treat the injuries.

Ankit suffered wounds after the animal allegedly bit his legs and back as he tried to protect his wife.

Security camera footage reportedly captured the attack and showed residents attempting to rescue the couple.

The video appears to show the couple trying to move away from the animal while neighbours use sticks to drive it back.

A woman initially emerged from the house with a stick and tried to intervene, but the attack continued.

Several residents then arrived and worked together to separate the pitbull from the injured couple.

Patiala Mayor Kundan Gogia said the municipal corporation may consider limiting the ownership of aggressive dog breeds within the city’s boundaries. He said officials could discuss the proposal at an upcoming House meeting, where members may consider passing a special resolution.

Ankit said he has approached the police and requested action against those he believes failed to properly restrain the dog.

Residents have raised further concerns following another reported dog attack on August 9, when a young girl allegedly suffered an attack by a stray dog in the Guru Nanak Nagar area.
