Parliament Agenda For Wednesday: Key Reports & Bills To Be Discussed

On Wednesday, Parliament is likely to discuss several important reports and bills in both Houses, according to the scheduled list of business.

Lok Sabha Highlights:

Finance (No.2) Bill, 2024: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will seek approval for the Finance (No.2) Bill, 2024. This bill however aims to implement the financial proposals for the fiscal year 2024-25. The bill was initially introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Fisheries Sector Report: Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) will address the Lok Sabha on the implementation status of the recommendations from the 70th report by the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Food Processing. This report however focuses on employment generation and revenue potential in the fisheries sector.

Citizens’ Data Security & Privacy: Minister Ashwini Vaishnav will discuss the implementation status of recommendations from the 48th report by the Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology, which pertains to citizens’ data security and privacy within the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Ethical Standards in Media: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L Murugan will present the implementation status of the 27th report by the Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology, addressing ethical standards in media coverage.

Foodgrain Storage Audit: Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya will table a performance audit report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on the storage and movement of foodgrains by the Food Corporation of India for the year ending March 2022.

Railways Health Services Audit: Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary will lay out various ministry-related reports, including an audit on the management of health services and parcel services in Indian Railways for the year ending March 2022.

Rajya Sabha Highlights:

Fisheries Sector Implementation: Minister Rajiv Singh will discuss the implementation status of recommendations from the 70th report by the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Food Processing, focusing on the fisheries sector.

Appropriation Bills: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will move a bill to authorize payment and appropriation of funds from the Consolidated Fund of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the financial year 2024-25, as passed by the Lok Sabha. Additionally, she will seek approval for a bill to authorize payment and appropriation of funds from the Consolidated Fund of India for the financial year 2024-25.

These discussions are however crucial as they address key financial proposals and sector-specific recommendations that impact various aspects of governance and public welfare.
