Pappu Yadav Gets Bail In 31-Year-Old Case; To Be Released From Jail

Independent Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav was granted bail on Tuesday by the Special MP-MLA Court (ACJM-1) in Patna in a case registered in 1995.

Following the court’s order, he is expected to be released after spending three days in Beur Jail.

Pappu Yadav was produced before the court from Beur Jail at around 12:30 PM, while arguments on his bail application began close to 2:00 PM. During the hearing, the MP appeared in court seated in a wheelchair.

After considering submissions from both sides, the court approved his bail request.

Case Background From 1995

The MP was taken into custody late on Friday night in connection with a 31-year-old dispute linked to a rented property. The FIR related to the case was lodged at the Gardanibagh Police Station in Patna in 1995.

The bail plea was initially scheduled to be heard on Monday. Court proceedings, however, were suspended after authorities received a bomb threat.

As a safety measure, the premises were evacuated, and hearings were deferred, including the matter concerning Pappu Yadav. The case was subsequently listed and heard on Tuesday.

The episode has once again placed Bihar’s political climate under scrutiny.

Supporters of the MP have accused the ruling dispensation of political vendetta, while officials have insisted that the matter is being dealt with strictly through legal channels.

Following Yadav’s arrest, the leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, reacted strongly.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also criticised the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government.

Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said that Yadav’s arrest was connected to his outspoken stand on the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant in Patna. He added that the action was not related to any immediate offence.

Pappu Yadav has remained vocal since the NEET aspirant death case emerged in the state capital.

The student was found unconscious under unexplained circumstances at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel in Chitragupt Nagar on January 6. She later succumbed to her injuries on January 11.

Post-mortem and FSL reports have indicated that sexual assault cannot be ruled out, intensifying demands for a comprehensive investigation.
