Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar briefed President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday about the Pahalgam terror attack and the government’s response.
The update came amid intense diplomatic activity at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in South Block.
India launched a strong diplomatic outreach to inform its key partners about the attack, which killed several civilians, including one foreign national.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri led the briefings for diplomats and ambassadors in New Delhi. He met envoys from the US, UK, EU, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, China, Qatar, UAE, Oman, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Norway.
The EU envoy, Herve Delphin, attended a 30-minute session with Misri. Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov and Gulf country diplomats also took part.
Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong joined a special briefing at the MEA. His presence signalled regional focus and India’s push for broader support against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jaishankar visited the MEA during the briefings, highlighting the importance of the outreach.
Each session lasted about 30 minutes. Officials discussed India’s security measures, intelligence findings, and operational actions already underway.
The MEA stressed India’s commitment to defend its sovereignty and combat cross-border terrorism.
Government sources said the aim was not just to update partners but also to align global counterterrorism efforts.
The Pahalgam terror attack drew global condemnation. India’s diplomatic response seeks to isolate terror sponsors and keep international allies informed and engaged.
