In a swift response to escalating threats, security forces engaged terrorists in Kulgam just hours after successfully foiling an infiltration bid.
The infiltration bid occurred along the LoC in Uri.
Officials said forces surrounded Tangmarg in Kulgam. They had intelligence about terrorists.
Terrorists fired as forces closed in. This triggered an encounter.
The encounter is ongoing. Reinforcements rushed to the area. They aim to stop terrorists from escaping.
Earlier, the Chinar Corps posted on X. They said 2-3 terrorists tried to infiltrate. This was near Sarjeevan at Uri Nala. Alert troops on the LoC challenged them. This led to a firefight.
The Kulgam encounter followed a deadly attack. Pakistan-sponsored terrorists killed 26 civilians.
This happened in a meadow near Pahalgam. The slain tourists included a naval officer. He got married on April 16th. An IB officer also died.
Eyewitnesses said Adil, a local, clashed with terrorists. He tried to save tourists and tried to snatch a weapon. He was shot dead.
A large anti-terrorist operation is underway. It is in the Baisaran meadow.
Terrorists committed the massacre there. The operation uses technology.
Drones and helicopters are involved. Electronic equipment helps trace terrorists.
Security forces released sketches of suspected terrorists. These terrorists likely carried out the massacre.

Shah also attended a CCS meeting. The Prime Minister chaired it.
