More than 34 crore people have secured jobs in micro and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through the Udyam and Udyam Assist portals since 2014, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi told the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
Responding to supplementaries, the Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises said there is no shortage of funds, and small workers are receiving financial assistance under various schemes.
He cited the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, which provides financial aid to workers such as cobblers and salon professionals.
Manjhi highlighted the push for digital upgrades and artificial intelligence in MSMEs, particularly in Haryana, to improve productivity and competitiveness.
“IndiaAI mission has been divided into seven pillars, such as IndiaAI Compute Capacity, IndiaAI Innovation Centre, IndiaAI Application Development Initiative, IndiaAI Startup Financing, IndiaAI FutureSkills, IndiaAI Dataset Platform, and Safe & Trusted AI. We have been working under these pillars for technology development in Haryana,” he said.
In the last five years, Gujarat has registered 37,56,390 new MSMEs, while 8,779 MSMEs closed down. Union Minister of State for MSMEs, Shobha Karandlaje, shared the information in the Rajya Sabha in response to a question by Parliamentarian Parimal Nathwani.
She stated that from 1 July 2020 to 15 July 2025, 8,779 MSMEs shut down in Gujarat and 2,892 in Andhra Pradesh. In the same period, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh recorded 37,56,390 and 33,78,109 new MSME registrations, respectively.
The minister added that the government has launched several initiatives to support MSMEs in mitigating the impact of reduced global demand and economic slowdowns.
