Over 3.3 Crore People Trained Under PMKVY And NSDC In Past Decade

More than 3.3 crore people have received skill training under the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) over the last decade, the government told the Lok Sabha on Monday.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary said over 1.6 crore candidates have been trained or oriented under PMKVY, of whom 1.29 crore have been certified as of 30 June 2025.

Another 1.74 crore individuals have been trained under NSDC-supported programmes.

Focus on Quality and Practical Exposure

Chaudhary said PMKVY 4.0 emphasises quality, industry relevance and flexibility. On-the-Job Training (OJT) has been embedded in the short-term training component to provide practical exposure to candidates. NSDC has also certified over 2.32 lakh trainers through awarding bodies.

To ensure accountability, the government has introduced digital systems like the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), which tracks Aadhaar-based enrolment, biometric attendance, geo-tagging and real-time dashboard updates. Training is conducted only by certified trainers, and performance audits, third-party evaluations, and grievance redressal mechanisms are in place.

Training for Future-Ready Sectors

The government is introducing training modules in emerging sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, Electric Vehicles, Robotics, 5G and Data Analytics. Job roles are aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework and are updated regularly based on industry feedback.

As of FY 2024–25, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has released ₹1,538.29 crore for PMKVY. The scheme operates across all districts, including Aspirational Districts and Left-Wing Extremism-affected areas, ensuring inclusion for marginalised communities.
