Opposition Meet To Happen In Bihar; State Congress Waiting For Rahul Gandhi

A day before the Opposition meet that party leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will preside over, the Janata Dal (United) headquarters in Patna, which is often open until midnight, was strangely quiet about 1 pm on Thursday, with only a few men lounging on the premises.

Ye toh kuch chhutput neta hai, koi bada neta nahi aye aaj (these are small-time politicians, no big leader has turned up today),” said a private security guard posted at the entry gate.

Opposition meet coming up soon…

Across the street, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) office was still open to visitors, mostly party members from different regions of Bihar and journalists from regional media sources.

The state headquarters of the Congress, Sadaqat Ashram, is a few kilometers from Vir Chand Patel Path, which is home to both the RJD and JD(U) offices. In stark contrast, it was decorated to welcome Rahul Gandhi, who will speak to party members on Friday before the Opposition gathering.

Over the spectacular display of Opposition unity in front of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a poster war has broken out in Patna. There are billboards advertising the opposition gathering that are adorned with images of the leaders who will be attending, including Nitish, Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal, M.K. Stalin of Tamil Nadu, and Sitaram Yechury of the CPI(M).

BJP calls the opposition ‘thugs’

Rahul Gandhi is seen on a number of posters from the Congress organisation, both in his grungy Bharat Jodo Yatra persona and when he is blowing kisses.

The BJP has also posted posters, one of which shows images of the participants and calls them “Thugs of India” outside its Patna headquarters.
