Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, on Friday interacted with Members of Parliament and visiting delegates representing more than 30 countries at Parliament House. The meeting centred on strengthening international understanding of democratic institutions and parliamentary customs.
During the engagement, Birla and the visiting representatives exchanged views on governance models, legislative procedures, cultural linkages, and contemporary global concerns affecting various nations.
Sharing details of the interaction on the social platform X, Birla stated that the gathering enabled productive dialogue on the functioning of democratic frameworks across different regions.
The foreign delegates observed India’s parliamentary proceedings and acknowledged the strength of the country’s democratic structure. They also appreciated the operational procedures of Parliament and its long-standing institutional traditions.
Birla said the visitors expressed admiration after witnessing the architecture, historical legacy, and democratic ethos associated with India’s Parliament.
The delegation is currently in India to attend the NXT Conclave 2026 held in New Delhi.
Participants from diverse sectors, including policy, academia, business, politics, and science, attended the inaugural session before visiting Parliament House.
Om Birla addressed the House on Thursday for the first time after members rejected a no-confidence motion against him. He thanked MPs for participating in the extensive debate and presenting their perspectives.
The Lok Sabha Speaker emphasised that parliamentary functioning strictly follows established procedures and rules. He further added that the Lok Sabha represents the democratic will of the Indian people.
Reflecting on his tenure, Om Birla said he consistently encouraged members, especially those reluctant to speak, to participate actively in debates, noting that inclusive discussion strengthens democratic foundations.
