A 35-year-old woman lost her life while 7 individuals, including 3 children, remain missing after a boat they were traveling in tragically capsized in Odisha’s Jharsuguda on Friday.
As per reports, more than 50 people were on the boat when the incident took place in the Mahanadi River.
This devastating event has left authorities and locals in a state of concern.
Meanwhile, the body of the woman has been recovered. Officials added that more than 48 people have been rescued so far.
Efforts are underway to locate the remaining missing individuals and ensure their safety.
Earlier, Kartikeya Goyal, Jharsuguda collector stated, “The Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force is continuing the search operation. We have received the information that scuba divers will come from Bhubaneshwar.”
“We have rescued around 47-48 people and will send them back to their villages tonight. The search operation is underway,” the collector added.
Following the incident, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia of 4 lakh to the family of the deceased.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Suresh Pujari alleged that the boat was overcrowded and ferrying people much beyond its capacity.
