A 73-year-old woman died of possible cardiac arrest on Thursday after the cable of a lift at a housing complex here snapped, leading to a free fall between floors, police officials said. The lift did not hit the ground but was caught between some of the middle floors of the building, a police official said as details about the incident that took place in a high-rise society were being ascertained.
The woman was alone in the lift when its wire snapped, leading to a free fall, the official said, citing preliminary findings. “Today, a woman going in the lift fainted due to breaking of the lift wire in Paras Tierra Society in Sector 137, under Police Station Sector 142 area. The woman was alone in the lift. She was admitted to Felix Hospital but died during treatment,” the police said in a statement.
The incident happened at about 4:30 p.m., and the woman died an hour later in the hospital. “The woman appeared to have been hurt by the lift falling on her, since she also had significant abrasions on her elbows and injuries to the back of her head. Due to the rapid nature of the event, her lack of a pulse and dilated eyelids when she was brought to the hospital suggested a potential cardiac arrest, a doctor at Felix Hospital.

The doctor noted that efforts were made to revive the patient, but they were unsuccessful.
While this was happening, hundreds of Paras Tierra inhabitants gathered in the complex of the society to protest the incident and maintenance of common services, like the management of the lifts.
According to authorities, the woman who was hurt in the event was taken to a local hospital where she passed away from her wounds.
The official also stated that after the deceased person’s family makes a complaint, police will begin to open an investigation.
According to Anil Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida), “a woman died after a lift collapsed at a society in sector 137 in Noida.”
A woman reportedly suffered injuries when a lift in a building collapsed. The woman had already away when a police squad arrived at the hospital, the officer added.
“A case will be registered on the complaint of the deceased’s family,” he declared.
The accident happened on Thursday about 6 o’clock, according to the police and family members of the deceased.
The police have launched a new inquiry into the event as a result.
