Chief Fire Officer said 15 water tenders are on the job and have been replenished 15-20 times so far.
For over 18 hours, firefighters have been battling a fierce blaze at a dumping yard belonging to the Noida Authority’s horticulture department, as officials grapple with challenging winds exacerbating the situation.
The fire ignited in an open plot within Sector 32 where the horticulture department had deposited pruned trees on Monday evening. Authority officials suspect two to three individuals deliberately started the fire.
Pradeep Kumar Choubey, Noida’s Chief Fire Officer, explained that the plot contained dry leaves and wood, intensifying the flames. Despite deploying 15 water tenders and firefighters promptly after receiving the alert, containing the blaze has proven difficult due to strong winds and sunlight.

Choubey recalled a similar incident at the same location last year, which took five to six days to fully extinguish. “This time, we’ve been battling the fire for over 18 hours,” he remarked, expressing determination to bring it under control soon.
According to Choubey, video evidence indicates that the fire was deliberately started by anti-social elements, a claim corroborated by the Noida Authority’s deputy director of the horticulture department.

With residential and commercial areas nearby, concerns over the fire’s impact persist. The firefighting effort involves 15 water tenders, which have been replenished numerous times. Additionally, the authority has deployed six earth movers and 20 water tankers to bolster firefighting operations.
