Nitish Kumar Flags Off Patna Metro; Heralding A New Era Of Urban Transport

The inauguration ceremony was held at the ISBT Depot metro station, where CM Nitish Kumar flagged off the metro and personally undertook its maiden ride from ISBT Depot to Bhoothnath Metro Station.

The event drew enthusiastic crowds eager to witness the landmark occasion, with several state ministers and senior officials in attendance.

In its first phase, the metro operates on a 4.3 km stretch connecting New ISBT, Zero Mile, and Bhoothnath stations.

Services opened to the public immediately after the inauguration, with plans to extend the line to Khemnichak and Malahi Pakadi later this year.

The three-coach rake, designed to carry up to 945 passengers per trip, offers a modern and convenient transport solution for Patna’s residents.

Fare and Timings

The authorities have set the fare at Rs 15 from ISBT to Zero Mile and Rs 30 from ISBT to Bhoothnath Metro Station. The metro operates from 8 AM to 10 PM, with services running every 20 minutes, amounting to 40–42 trips daily.

Each coach can seat 147 passengers and accommodate additional standing commuters, with twelve seats reserved per coach for women and differently-abled passengers.

Also, Advanced safety systems equip each coach with 360-degree CCTV cameras, emergency buttons, and microphones that connect directly to the train driver, ensuring real-time responses during emergencies.

The maximum operating speed in the initial phase is 40 km per hour.

Speaking at the event, CM Nitish Kumar further emphasised that the Patna Metro marks the beginning of a new era of urban mobility in the city.

The metro project will ease traffic congestion and offer daily commuters a faster, reliable, and environmentally friendly alternative.

Moreover, the Bihar government has estimated the total cost of the project at Rs 13,365 crore.

Once fully operational, the network will expand to 24 stations over 32.5 km, representing a major leap in Patna’s public transport infrastructure and underlining the Bihar government’s commitment to modernising urban mobility and supporting economic growth in the region.
