Nitish Kumar Files Rajya Sabha Nomination; Amit Shah Present In Patna

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday submitted his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections, marking a significant political moment in the state’s evolving power landscape.

The filing took place in Patna amid heightened political activity and visible dissent among sections of his own party workers.

Alongside Nitish Kumar, several candidates from the ruling alliance also completed their nomination formalities. These included Nitin Nabin, Shivesh Kumar Ram, and Upendra Kushwaha.

All nominations were filed on the same day, signalling coordinated electoral preparations by the governing coalition.

Senior leaders of the National Democratic Alliance gathered in Patna during the event.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah travelled from New Delhi to attend the proceedings and demonstrate political support for the alliance leadership.

The nomination triggered visible resentment within sections of the Janata Dal (United) organisation.

Groups of party workers assembled outside the Chief Minister’s residence and voiced strong objections.

Protesters raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party and accused the party of orchestrating political pressure on Kumar.

Demonstrators alleged that the BJP was attempting to diminish JD(U)’s influence through what they described as ‘Operation Lotus’.

As HM Amit Shah departed the residence with Nitish Kumar, several protesters shouted slogans condemning the Union minister.

Earlier in the day, a minister from the BJP in the Bihar government encountered angry demonstrators and had to leave the area amid the disturbance.

The episode underscored growing unease among sections of JD(U)’s grassroots supporters.

Some party workers claimed that pressure had been exerted on Kumar to shift towards national-level politics.

According to these allegations, the BJP seeks to assume stronger political control in Bihar despite upcoming Assembly elections traditionally fought under Kumar’s leadership.

Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav criticised the development and argued that public sentiment opposed any abrupt leadership transition. He alleged that the BJP had already devised a strategy to remove Nitish Kumar from the state’s political centre.

Tejashwi also referenced earlier political messaging that projected Kumar’s leadership in Bihar beyond 2025. He questioned the decision to move him to the Rajya Sabha without wider consultation with voters.

The opposition leader accused the BJP of systematically weakening regional allies before consolidating its own authority. He cited political developments involving parties such as Shiv Sena, AIADMK, and Shiromani Akali Dal as comparable examples.

Nitish Kumar’s Rajya Sabha nomination, therefore, signals a notable shift in Bihar’s political trajectory.

Although the NDA leadership presented a united stance, internal dissatisfaction and opposition criticism indicate that the state may witness intensified political debate in the coming weeks.
