Union Minister Nitin Gadkari
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has taken legal action against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and General Secretary Jairam Ramesh for sharing what he claims to be defamatory content about him on the party’s official social media account.
Gadkari’s lawyer, Balendu Shekhar, asserted that the BJP leader was dismayed to discover a 19-second video clip taken out of context from his interview with a news portal. According to Shekhar, the clip distorted the context and meaning of Gadkari’s words.
In the legal notices sent to Kharge and Ramesh, Gadkari’s interview was described as being twisted and distorted. His lawyer accused the Congress leaders of engaging in a deliberate and conscious effort to create confusion and damage Gadkari’s reputation.
The contentious video clip was excerpted from Gadkari’s interview with The Lallantop. It was posted by the Congress on their social media account with a caption that alleged Gadkari’s acknowledgment of various issues faced by rural areas, portraying it in a negative light.

Gadkari’s lawyer argued that Kharge and Ramesh, being influential leaders of the Congress, were fully aware of the context of Gadkari’s remarks, which were intended to highlight the government’s developmental efforts. He asserted that the video clip with a selective Hindi caption was posted to tarnish Gadkari’s reputation.
The legal notice emphasized that Gadkari was taken aback by the content posted by the Congress on March 1, 2024. It accused the Congress leaders of deliberately posting a truncated version of Gadkari’s interview to incite confusion and discredit him, as well as to sow discord within the BJP ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The notice concluded by highlighting the BJP’s determination to earn the trust of the people under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and condemned the Congress’s alleged attempt to undermine this effort through deceitful means.
