NITI Aayog Strengthens Role In Policy Framework, Says PM Modi

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the growing importance of NITI Aayog, describing it as a key institution driving policy coordination, reforms and improvements in citizens’ quality of life.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “NITI Aayog has emerged as a vital pillar in India’s policy-making architecture, fostering cooperative federalism, furthering reforms and boosting ‘Ease of Living.’ It serves as a dynamic platform for innovation and long-term strategic thinking across sectors.”

“The Government has reconstituted the NITI Aayog. My best wishes to Shri Ashok Kumar Lahiri Ji on becoming the Vice Chairman. My best wishes also to Shri Rajiv Gauba Ji, Prof. K. V. Raju Ji, Prof. Gobardhan Das Ji, Prof. Abhay Karandikar Ji and Dr. M. Srinivas Ji on becoming Full Time Members of NITI Aayog,” the post read.

The Prime Minister also met Ashok Kumar Lahiri and commended his extensive background in economics and public policy. He noted that Lahiri’s experience would help strengthen ongoing reform efforts and enhance the country’s policy-making processes.

Lahiri, an MLA from Balurghat in West Bengal, has held several prominent positions during his career. He served as Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India and has been associated with institutions such as the Delhi School of Economics, Asian Development Bank, Bandhan Bank and the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy.

His international experience includes assignments with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

An alumnus of Presidency University Kolkata, Lahiri is regarded as a senior figure in economic policy circles.

The Prime Minister wished the newly appointed leadership a productive tenure, expressing optimism that their contributions would further strengthen governance and development initiatives.
