Navratri Day 2: Devotees Brave Heavy Rain To Seek Maa Brahmacharini’s Blessings In Delhi, Varanasi

Devotees across India thronged temples on Monday, October 12, to celebrate the second day of Shardiya Navratri, dedicated to Goddess Brahmacharini, the second form of Goddess Durga.

Worshippers offered prayers and sought blessings for patience, wisdom, self-discipline and spiritual growth.

In New Delhi, devotees gathered in large numbers at the renowned Jhandewalan Devi Temple to worship Maa Brahmacharini.

Long queues formed as worshippers waited for a glimpse of the Goddess, while temple workers applied tika to their foreheads.

A priest at the temple explained that Brahmacharini symbolises penance and perseverance. He said Goddess Bhagwati performed intense penance to attain Lord Shiva, highlighting the importance of patience, sacrifice and determination in achieving one’s goals. He added that devotees believe sincere worship of Maa Brahmacharini fulfils their wishes.

Devotees shared their experiences of the celebrations.

Gitanjali, who visits the temple with her family every year, said she was happy to seek the Goddess’s blessings despite heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions.

Another devotee praised the temple arrangements, saying the darshan process was smooth and quick, with no chaos.

The worshipper added that devotees eagerly await Navratri every year to seek Mata Rani’s blessings.

In Varanasi, devotees queued at the Maa Brahmacharini Devi Durga Temple to offer prayers.

Munni, a regular visitor for 25 years, expressed hope that devotees’ faith would endure, while Renu prayed for the Goddess’s blessings and love.

The second day of Shardiya Navratri follows the worship of Maa Shailputri and celebrates Maa Brahmacharini, symbolising devotion, perseverance and self-discipline.
