The Prime Minister shared a video highlighting Indian engineers’ contribution to the country’s development. He further said their creativity, innovation and technical expertise have turned the unimaginable into reality.
Recalling Visvesvaraya’s legacy, PM Modi added that his achievements continue to inspire generations and remain an important part of India’s engineering heritage. He further saluted engineers for their contribution to nation-building and their growing global recognition.
India observes National Engineers’ Day on September 15 every year to commemorate Visvesvaraya’s birth anniversary. Born on September 15, 1861, he remains one of India’s most celebrated engineers and statesmen and is widely regarded as the ‘Father of Modern Mysore’.
Visvesvaraya made significant contributions to public infrastructure and engineering. He, however, played a key role in the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore and helped design and implement advanced flood protection systems.
The renowned engineer received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 1955 for his contributions to engineering, public projects and society.
The Government of India officially designated September 15 as National Engineers’ Day in 1968 to honour Visvesvaraya’s exceptional contribution to engineering and the country’s development.
PM Modi’s tribute on the occasion underscored the vital role engineers continue to play in advancing innovation, infrastructure and India’s broader nation-building efforts.
