On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, former President Ram Nath Kovind, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid their respects to Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar on his death anniversary at the Parliament House Lawns.
The leaders honored Dr. Ambedkar with floral tributes, remembering his contributions as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and a pioneer of social justice and equality.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “On Mahaparinirvan Diwas, we bow to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution and a beacon of social justice. Dr. Ambedkar’s tireless fight for equality and human dignity continues to inspire generations. Today, as we remember his contributions, we also reiterate our commitment to fulfilling his vision. Also sharing a picture from my visit to Chaitya Bhoomi in Mumbai earlier this year. Jai Bhim!”
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla described Dr. Ambedkar as a ‘nation builder’ and ‘guardian of social justice’, asserting, “On the Mahaparinirvan Day of the Nation Builder, Guardian of Social Justice, and Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, I pay my tribute to him. His vision of an egalitarian society, his priceless teachings, and his unparalleled contribution to the creation of the Constitution will continue to inspire us forever.”
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar, calling him a ‘strong advocate of the Constitution and social justice’.
“On the Mahaparinirvan Diwas of Babasaheb Dr Ambedkar, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the ardent champion of the Constitution and social justice. Babasaheb devoted his entire life to championing the democratic values of liberty, equality, fraternity, and justice. It is a pressing need of the hour to defend, protect and safeguard his ideals and ideas, as also his finest contribution to the nation — the Constitution of Indi,” Kharge posted on X.
Mahaparinirvan Diwas, observed annually on 6 December, commemorates the death anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar, who passed away in 1956.
As a key member of the committee that drafted the Indian Constitution, Dr. Ambedkar’s work laid the foundation for modern India. His advocacy for equality and justice earned him posthumous recognition with the Bharat Ratna in 1990.
