Nara Lokesh Thanks PM Narendra Modi After Amaravati Bill Passage

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Human Resources Development Nara Lokesh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, expressing gratitude for the passage of the Amaravati Bill in Parliament, which grants statutory recognition to Amaravati as the sole and permanent capital of the state.

Nara Lokesh, who also serves as general secretary of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), presented a shawl to the Prime Minister during the meeting. He conveyed appreciation on behalf of the people of Andhra Pradesh.

Taking to X, Lokesh posted on X, “It was a privilege to meet Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji. I conveyed the heartfelt gratitude of crores of people of #AndhraPradesh for the #Amaravati Bill being passed in Parliament.”

“I also shared the extraordinary story of our farmers – who made immense sacrifices, pooling their lands and standing resilient through years of uncertainty – to keep the dream of Amaravati alive. I sought his continued guidance in honouring their sacrifice by building Amaravati into a truly world-class capital,” the post further read.

Engages with NDA Leaders

Nara Lokesh also interacted with NDA MPs. He later met Om Birla. Lokesh thanked him for his cooperation in facilitating the Bill’s passage.

The Lok Sabha passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, on Wednesday. The Rajya Sabha will discuss it on Thursday and is likely to approve it unanimously.

Lokesh is in the national capital to witness the proceedings in the Upper House. He will likely meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan to convey gratitude on behalf of the state.

The amendment to Section 5 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, replaces the earlier provision of ‘a new capital’. It introduces ‘Amaravati shall be the new capital’. This firmly embeds the city within the statutory framework.

The move follows a unanimous resolution passed by the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on March 28.
