Myanmar Armymen in India

Early reports stated that the aircraft, which sustained damage after deviating off the runway at Lengpui airport, had come to pick up men from the Myanmar Army who had recently entered India.

The incident took place on the same day that an Assam Rifles official announced that India had returned 184 soldiers from Myanmar to their own country after they had fled to Mizoram last week after engaging in gunfire with an ethnic insurgent organization.

According to the official, 184 of the 276 Myanmarese soldiers who had infiltrated Mizoram last week were ordered back on Monday. Official added that they were transported by air on Myanmar Air Force aircraft from Lengpui Airport, close to Aizawl, to Sittwe in the neighboring state of Rakhine. The official also stated that the remaining 92 soldiers will return home on Tuesday.

Myanmar soldiers proceeding towards Assam

On January 17, armed and well-prepared, the Myanmar soldiers proceeded towards the Assam Rifles from Bandukbanga hamlet in the southernmost district of Lawngtlai, Mizoram, which is situated at the trijunction of India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. After ‘Arakan Army’ fighters overran and captured their camp, they escaped to Mizoram. According to the official, the majority of the Myanmarese soldiers were later moved to Lunglei after being brought to the Assam Rifles camp at Parva, which is nearby.

Since then, the Assam Rifles have been in charge of them, according to the official. From the Lengpui airport, these 276 soldiers were transported to Aizawl throughout the course of Saturday and Sunday in order to be transported to Myanmar.
