Mumbai Crime Branch Takes Lead in Investigation of Uddhav Thackeray Group Leader’s Murder During Facebook Live
The Mumbai Crime Branch has assumed control of the investigation into the murder of the Uddhav Thackeray group leader during a Facebook Live session. The focus of the probe will encompass several crucial aspects, including the source of Noronha’s weapon, the potential influence of alcohol, and the questioning of witnesses present during the fatal shooting.
Initial reports indicate that Ghosalkar sustained four gunshot wounds, allegedly inflicted by Noronha using an illegal firearm before taking his own life. Despite a history of “personal enmity” between Ghosalkar and Noronha, the Facebook Live event was intended to signal a reconciliation for the betterment of the IC Colony area.
The MHB Colony police initially filed a case following the murder, with senior police officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satya Narayan and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Datta Nalawade, conducting an initial investigation at the crime scene. Subsequently, the case was transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch due to its severity and the extensive scope of the inquiry.
A comprehensive team from the Crime Branch, in collaboration with local authorities, has commenced the investigation, focusing on gathering crucial evidence and interviewing witnesses. Efforts are underway to determine the origin of the firearm used by Noronha and whether alcohol played a role in the tragic incident.
Meanwhile, in anticipation of potential unrest, a heightened police presence has been established around Karuna Hospital and its surroundings, where Ghosalkar was initially treated. Additionally, Ghosalkar’s body has been transferred to a state-run hospital for post-mortem examination.
This incident has drawn significant attention, particularly in light of recent violent episodes within political circles, prompting Chief Minister Shinde to announce a formal probe into the matter.
