A miniature edition of the Hindu scripture, Bhagavad Gita, and a unique cutout book on Prime Minister Narendra Modi have emerged as major attractions at the National Book Fair, which runs from 4 to 14 September at Balrampur Garden, Hazratganj, Lucknow.
The highlight of the fair is the smallest Bhagavad Gita, presented by Apoorv Shah of Navrang Printers, Ahmedabad.
Costing only Rs 80, the 400-page book is extremely compact, weighing 80 grams and measuring just 1 inch high and 1.5 inches long—small enough to slip into a pocket.
Speaking to IANS, Apoorv Shah, who personally translated and self-published the smallest Hindi edition of the Gita, stated, “I wanted to create a version of the Bhagavad Gita that people could carry with them easily. This edition is practical, and even the younger generation is showing interest.”
Since its first edition in 2019, it has sold over 500 copies.
Shah brought 100 copies to this year’s fair, of which 91 have already found buyers.
Retired PCS officer Dinesh Gupta of Lucknow, one of the purchasers, asserted, “The Gita is a great source of inspiration. I’m glad I found such a unique version.”
Another notable attraction is Shah’s cutout book on Prime Minister Modi, which creatively illustrates the PM’s life and daily routine.
Priced at Rs 250, the 11-inch-long, 180-gram book has fascinated readers, particularly the youth.
Shah revealed that he sold 100 copies within just six days.
“Even the common youth of Lucknow are excited to read about PM Modi in such a creative format,” he noted.
The Bhagavad Gita, often called the Gita, is a Hindu scripture dating to the 1st or 2nd century BCE and forms part of the Mahabharata. It blends various strands of Indian religious thought, including dharma, yoga, jnana, and bhakti.
