Meerut Political Row Escalates As SP MLA Targets BJP Leader Sangeet Som’s Business Links

Political tensions in western Uttar Pradesh have intensified after Samajwadi Party MLA Atul Pradhan launched a sharp attack on Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sangeet Som.

The row follows Som’s recent remarks on public figures, which triggered a strong and personal counter-offensive from the SP legislator.

Pradhan questioned Som’s ideological positioning, alleging a contradiction between his public rhetoric and private business interests.

The accusations have sparked intense debate across Meerut’s political circles.

Addressing the media, Atul Pradhan claimed that Sangeet Som and his wife hold directorships in multiple companies involved in the meat and fish supply chain.

According to Pradhan, these businesses allegedly include meat processing, storage and distribution activities.

He further alleged that Som conducts business with Muslim partners, a claim he said stood in contrast to the BJP leader’s hardline political messaging.

The SP MLA argued that such associations expose a gap between Som’s public statements and personal dealings.

Pradhan also raised concerns over the repeated security threats reportedly received by Sangeet Som. He claimed that such threats often surface when authorities review or renew Som’s security arrangements.

Referring to a recent alleged threat from Bangladesh, Pradhan urged authorities to examine the incidents closely and questioned whether they were using public funds appropriately to maintain Som’s security.

The SP MLA alleged that nearly Rs 66 crore of public money has been spent on Som’s security over the years.

Presenting documents to support his claim, Pradhan called for an independent investigation into both the security expenditure and the alleged business interests.

He stated that investigative agencies should examine the finances and activities of both leaders to ensure transparency and accountability.

Longstanding Rivalry Comes to Fore

The political rivalry between Atul Pradhan and Sangeet Som, both prominent figures linked to the Sardhana constituency, is not new.

However, the latest accusations mark a significant escalation, bringing personal business dealings and administrative oversight into the political spotlight.

The controversy has not only placed Sangeet Som under scrutiny but has also raised broader questions about political accountability, security protocols and the role of investigative agencies in high-profile cases.
