MEA Expresses Concern Over Iran–Gulf Escalation, Issues Safety Advisories For Indians Abroad

India on Saturday conveyed profound concern regarding the deteriorating situation in Iran and across the Gulf region, urging all stakeholders to prevent further escalation.

In a formal communication, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) appealed to all sides to show restraint, refrain from intensifying hostilities and prioritise civilian safety.

The ministry stressed, “India is deeply concerned at the recent developments in Iran and the Gulf region. We urge all sides to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritise the safety of civilians. Dialogue and diplomacy should be pursued to de-escalate tensions and address underlying issues. Sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected.”

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “Our Missions in the region are in touch with Indian nationals and have issued appropriate advisories asking them to remain vigilant, stay in contact with the Missions, and follow local security guidance.”

Embassies Issue Region-Wide Advisories

Earlier, the Embassy of India in Tehran released an advisory urging Indians in Iran to adopt maximum precaution. Citizens were encouraged to limit movement, remain indoors as far as feasible and keep track of credible news sources. Emergency contact information was also provided for immediate assistance.

With tensions spreading, the Indian Embassy in Doha issued a separate advisory for nationals residing in Qatar.

It is recommended that individuals follow updates from both the Embassy and local authorities while taking necessary safety measures. Officials confirmed that the mission continues to operate without disruption.

The advisory additionally asked residents to adhere to emergency alerts issued by local agencies. People were requested to avoid areas near military establishments, remain inside buildings and venture out only when absolutely unavoidable.

In the United Arab Emirates, the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai circulated urgent guidance. Indian nationals were advised to avoid non-essential travel, stay alert and observe instructions issued by UAE authorities.

Both missions affirmed that consular services remain functional and updates will be shared as needed.

The heightened tensions follow a statement by US President Donald Trump announcing a large-scale and ongoing American military operation aimed at dismantling Iran’s missile infrastructure, further intensifying regional uncertainty.
