Mayor Shelly Oberoi Friday evening announced the re-election of the Standing Committee at 11 am on February 27, 2023.
The scuffle took place between BJP and AAP when Mayor Shelly Oberoi declared one vote invalid in the election to six members of the Standing Committee.
The BJP councilors raised objections against the declaration of one vote invalid by the Mayor. Out of a total of 250 councilors in the House, 242 councilors cast their votes for the committee members. Congress councilors remained absent from the voting process for Standing Committee members.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor demanded that the MCD be dissolved. He said, “Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party have a habit of running the assembly with the absolute majority where they arbitrarily throw out a few MLAs of the opposition whenever they want but today when it came to running the MCD with an equal opposition of councilors, they failed to make a consensus in the House on the very first day due to which there was an orgy of violence in the House”.
Videos showed the members of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi punching, kicking, and shoving each other. One of the Aam Aadmi Party councilors also fell on the ground amid the chaos.
According to News Agency ANI, BJP councilor Meenakshi Sharma claimed, “Someone from AAP hit me with a sharp object. They also touched my neck. It was done by a male Councillor. They haven’t allowed a single House sustain. Don’t know if she’s Delhi’s Mayor or AAP’s. She acts on orders by Kejriwal & other masters”.
AAP Councillor, Ashok Kumar Maanu who collapsed at Delhi Civic Centre minutes back, appears before the media with other Councillors of his party. They say, “They are so shameless that they attacked even women and the Mayor. BJP goons did this”.
