Mauritian PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam To Arrive In Varanasi For Diplomatic & Cultural Visit

Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam is visiting Varanasi today as part of his official tour of India aimed at bolstering the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and other senior officials received him at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport.

Ramgoolam’s arrival in India began on Tuesday in Mumbai, where he commenced his multi-city tour. His visit underscores the enduring cultural and diplomatic ties between India and Mauritius, a country home to a significant population of Indian origin.

A key highlight of Ramgoolam’s visit will be a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi on September 11. The leaders are expected to discuss regional cooperation, economic engagement, and shared cultural heritage.

Divisional Commissioner S Rajalingam confirmed that logistical arrangements for the high-level visit are complete.

“The Mauritian Prime Minister will remain in Kashi from September 10 to 12, while PM Modi is due to arrive on the 11th September for bilateral discussions,” he said.

Cultural and Spiritual Engagements

During his stay in Varanasi, Ramgoolam will immerse himself in the spiritual life of the city.

On September 12, he will visit the revered Kashi Vishwanath Temple and watch the famous Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat from a cruise on the Ganga River.

Following his engagements in Varanasi, the Mauritian leader will travel to Ayodhya to pay his respects at the Ram Temple site, further highlighting the spiritual and historical ties between both nations.

Ramgoolam’s Indian tour will conclude with a business engagement in Mumbai and a spiritual visit to the temple town of Tirupati.

He previously visited India in 2014, when the Indian government invited him as the only non-SAARC leader to attend Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.

Earlier this year, PM Modi visited Mauritius for the country’s 57th National Day celebrations.
