A tanker carrying LPG gas caught fire near Pushparaj Petrol Pump on Ajmer Road in Jaipur at 5:30 am on Friday. The explosion was heard up to 10 kilometers away, creating widespread panic among residents. Flames and smoke were visible from a great distance, intensifying fears.
The fire engulfed several vehicles within a 300-meter radius, causing repeated explosions as fuel tanks burst. Locals believe the fire may have resulted from a technical fault in the tanker. Officials have yet to confirm the cause, pending investigation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragic accident on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway in Rajasthan on Friday. He announced Rs 2 lakh as ex-gratia for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
In his message, the Prime Minister said he was deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the accident. He offered condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
He stated that the local administration is actively helping those affected. The financial assistance aims to support the victims and their families during this difficult time.
Multiple Injuries Reported in Critical Condition
At least Seven people lost their lives, and 35 others were critically injured and taken to Sawai Man Singh Hospital. Witnesses described harrowing scenes of burning vehicles and injured drivers trapped in the fire. Rescue teams faced challenges due to the spread of gas in the area.
Authorities quickly shut down the LPG pipeline beneath the highway to prevent further spread of the blaze. The highway remains closed, and travelers are advised to use alternate routes.
Rescue Operations Continue Amid Highway Shutdown
Senior police and fire department officials deployed multiple fire trucks and ambulances to the site. More than 30 emergency vehicles responded to contain the flames and assist victims.
The area has been cordoned off as rescue efforts continue. Traffic on the highway has been halted, and the road closure is expected to remain in effect until the situation is fully controlled.
