North-East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari organised the Sansad Khel Mahotsav in his parliamentary constituency, responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to promote sports at the grassroots level.
The festival, held at the DDA ground near Khajuri Chowk, saw 42 teams compete in an engaging cricket tournament.
The opening ceremony was conducted by DDA Vice-Chairman N Shravan Kumar, with numerous senior BJP leaders, councillors, and residents in attendance.
Addressing the gathering, N Shravan Kumar praised Tiwari’s long-term efforts to nurture young talent.
“Few individuals today organise events of this scale for youth and sports development,” he said.
Highlighting Tiwari’s 11-year legacy of bringing hidden local talent into the spotlight, Kumar assured that DDA would provide full support to the initiative and expand parks and sports grounds across North-East Delhi.
Speaking to participants and local residents, Manoj Tiwari highlighted the essential role of sports in life. He explained that games instil discipline, honesty, transparency, and mutual respect.
“Historically, mentors have used sports to teach their students life skills,” he added, stressing the broader life lessons that sports offer beyond the field.
Tiwari also pointed out the government’s focus on guiding youth towards physical fitness, mental well-being, and ethical behaviour. He described sports as a pathway to realising potential, terming it a journey ‘from resolve to achievement’.
He noted that before these efforts, countless talented young athletes lacked the resources and opportunities to showcase their skills.
Tiwari praised the PM Modi government for stepping in to provide a platform that nurtures and promotes sporting talent.
The festival featured thrilling cricket contests. In the opening match, Jhadoda Ward defeated Sant Nagar by 26 runs. Mukherjee Nagar posted 153 runs but narrowly beat Sabhapur by three runs, while Sadatpur secured a 54-run victory over the Media Team.
To reward participants, Tiwari announced increased prize money: ₹2 lakh for the winning team, ₹1 lakh for the runners-up, and ₹51,000 for the third-place team.
The Sansad Khel Mahotsav not only connected youth with sports but also provided a significant platform to showcase their talent.
Manoj Tiwari’s initiative is emerging as a major contributor to strengthening the sporting culture in North-East Delhi.
