Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Highlights How Sundarbans Women Are Rebuilding Lives Through Mangroves

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted how women in West Bengal’s Sundarbans are turning to mangrove plantation to rebuild their lives and support their communities.

During the 138th episode of his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme on Sunday, PM Modi said caring for nature can provide strength and livelihood opportunities.

The Prime Minister spoke about women from Jharkhali who are involved in growing and restoring mangrove forests.

Many of them lost their husbands in tiger attacks, leaving them to rebuild their lives in difficult circumstances.

PM Modi said the Sundarbans became a source of support and livelihood for these women after their personal losses. Their efforts to plant and nurture mangroves are now helping protect their villages from environmental threats while providing them with an income.

Prime Minister Modi said the initiative demonstrates how communities can build a stronger relationship with nature while addressing livelihood needs. He further urged citizens to protect the environment, preserve biodiversity and respect the balance of nature.

The Prime Minister said every effort to safeguard nature represents a responsibility towards future generations. He highlighted the importance of community participation in environmental conservation and encouraged people to contribute to such initiatives.

During the broadcast, PM Modi highlighted cleanliness drives led by young people and communities across the country.

With October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, approaching, the Prime Minister recalled Gandhi’s emphasis on cleanliness and urged greater public participation.

PM Modi said individual cleanliness efforts can inspire wider community participation and promote collective responsibility. He linked environmental conservation and cleanliness with stronger, more resilient communities.
