Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Highlights Girija Amma’s Patriotic Initiative

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised veteran Tamil Nadu educator Girija Amma for inspiring students to contribute to the welfare of Indian soldiers through a unique initiative rooted in patriotism and social responsibility.

Speaking during the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi shared her story and highlighted the impact of her efforts. He recalled meeting Girija Amma, formally known as Gomatam Veeraraghavan Girija, during a recent interaction and noted that he had first met her nearly three decades ago.

The Prime Minister commended her long-standing contribution to education and nation-building.

Girija Amma leads the respected Gopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya, known for promoting academic excellence and cultural values.

Inspired by Mann Ki Baat, Girija Amma launched a campaign encouraging students to contribute one rupee each day for a year towards the welfare of India’s soldiers.

Thousands of students participated in the initiative, helping raise nearly ₹40 lakh through their collective contributions. Girija Amma later handed over the entire amount to the Prime Minister.

PM Modi said her dedication to the nation deeply moved him. He also praised the students for embracing the spirit of service and patriotism.

According to him, the initiative demonstrated how small individual efforts can create a meaningful impact when people work towards a common cause.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the Hindu Vidyalaya network’s recent 50th anniversary and praised its contribution to education and cultural values.

Congratulating Girija Amma, the students and the school community, PM Modi said such inspiring initiatives reflect the collective spirit of service that drives India’s progress and promised to share more such stories in future editions of Mann Ki Baat.
