Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Hails Growing Participation In Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaign

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the increasing participation of people in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign during the 136th episode of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat. He said the initiative has motivated citizens across the country to take active steps towards protecting nature.

The Prime Minister noted that when communities come together for environmental causes, they create inspiring examples of collective responsibility and sustainable development.

PM Modi highlighted the impressive plantation effort carried out in Ahmedabad’s Bhadaj area, where more than 3.5 lakh saplings were planted in just one hour. He said over 25,000 participants, including students, NCC cadets, volunteers and residents, contributed to the campaign.

The Uttar Pradesh government conducted a plantation campaign on July 12 and planted more than 35 crore saplings in a single day, which the Prime Minister highlighted as a significant achievement.

PM Modi underlined that forests and trees play a vital role not only in supporting human life but also in protecting various animal and bird species.

Referring to Gujarat’s Gir forest, the Prime Minister mentioned the return of the Indian Grey Hornbill after nearly 60 years as a result of long-term conservation initiatives. He explained that hornbills contribute to forest regeneration by spreading seeds after consuming fruits, helping new plants grow and maintaining ecological balance.

The Prime Minister encouraged citizens to associate tree plantation with important moments in their lives and continue participating in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. He said a sapling planted today can become a lasting symbol of greenery, clean air and environmental security for future generations.

PM Modi also recalled his earlier appeal encouraging people to use locally made clay idols during Ganesh Utsav instead of Plaster of Paris (POP) or imported idols.
