Union Home Minister Amit Shah engaged in discussions with a delegation from the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF), an influential umbrella body of tribal groups in Manipur, in Delhi. This meeting followed the Government of India’s appeal on August 3 to peacefully address the matter of burying the victims of the Manipur violence. As per insiders, responding to a request from ITLF leaders, Shah agreed to allocate the government’s sericulture farm for the burial.
The government urged the delegation not to conduct the final rites at the existing conflicted site. Instead, they recommended identifying an alternative location with the guidance of the deputy commissioner of Churachandpur district for swift burials. The ITLF delegation pledged to collaborate with the community to determine this new location.
Sources further revealed that Shah assured the ITLF representatives of enhanced central force presence in Manipur, particularly in vulnerable areas of the Hills. State forces will align with central forces under the oversight of the state security adviser in these Hill regions.

Shah also confirmed arrangements to aid in identifying and transporting the victims’ bodies in Imphal back to their hometowns. The government committed to initiating helicopter services for residents of Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and Moreh to their desired destinations.
Furthermore, steps will be taken to allow students to enroll in colleges in hill regions, transfer to universities beyond the state, and establish student facilitation centers in Manipur.
Assurances were extended for the Justice Lamba Commission, a three-member group investigating the Manipur violence, to establish an office in Churachandpur. Sources mentioned that prisoner conditions would be supervised.
