A man lost his life on Thursday after reportedly being struck by a Delhi Police vehicle near the Ram Krishna Ashram Marg metro station. The incident is under investigation by the crime team and the Delhi Police.
The deceased has been identified as Ganga Ram, who ran a tea stall. His body was sent to a nearby hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred near Pillar 10, behind the Municipal Palace and close to Mandir Marg Police Station.
The PCR van driver allegedly pressed the accelerator by mistake, mounting a roadside ramp and hitting the man, who succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The incident caused panic in the area, drawing a crowd of onlookers.
Police teams promptly arrived to secure the scene and begin inquiries, while further details remain under investigation.
Allegations have emerged that the police personnel involved may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Authorities confirmed that CCTV footage would be examined to establish the circumstances of the mishap.
The accident comes shortly after a separate tragedy in Delhi. Union Finance Ministry official Navjot Singh died when a BMW collided with his motorcycle near Delhi Cantonment metro station on Ring Road on 14 September. Three others, including Singh’s wife, were also injured.
Gaganpreet Kaur, the driver of the BMW, was arrested from a hospital following the incident. Police have filed charges including culpable homicide, destruction of evidence, and rash driving.
Navjot Singh, aged 52, served as deputy secretary in the Union Finance Ministry.
On the day of the accident, he visited Bangla Sahib Gurdwara with his wife, Sandeep Kaur. They had lunch at Karnataka Bhavan in RK Puram. The fatal collision occurred on their way home.
