Man Detained At Mumbai Airport For Smuggling ‘Diamonds’ By Hiding Them In Tea Powder Pouches

According to sources, the Customs department detained a guy at the Mumbai airport for reportedly attempting to smuggle diamonds worth 1.49 crore out of the country by concealing them in tea powder pouches packed in his luggage.

According to a Customs official, the 30-year-old suspect, Mukkim Raza Ashraf Mansuri, was detained on August 9 by the Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs department as he prepared to board a flight for Dubai. Mansuri, a local of south Mumbai’s Null Bazar neighborhood, was taken into custody at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. He was preparing to board a private jet and fly to Dubai.

Hand bag examined

The examination of his hand baggage resulted in the recovery of a suspicious tea packet of a major brand. On opening the packet, the agency found eight small pouches containing 34 diamonds.
A suspect packet of a well-known tea brand was discovered while his hand luggage was being checked, he claimed. The official reported that when the packet was opened, eight tiny bags containing a branded tea powder containing 34 diamonds were discovered.

Mansuri was detained

He stated, “The diamonds weighed 1,559.68 carats and were valued at 1.49 crore.” The official stated that Mansuri was detained under the Customs Act after it was discovered during his questioning that he had been given 5,000 for smuggling the diamonds out of the country.

At the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in June, customs inspectors from Delhi destroyed 1,289 units of liquor bottles and 51.68 kg of drugs. The collection of liquor bottles from various brands, according to the Customs agent, was connected to either lost property or confiscated things. According to the officials, “Delhi Airport Customs destroyed 1289 units of liquor bottles of various brands that were part of Lost Property/Detained goods at Terminal-3, IGI Airport, New Delhi, over the period of April 2020 to December 2022.”
