Mamata Banerjee Challenges BJP’s ‘400 paar’ Ambition at Mahua Moitra’s Rally

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee aimed for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA’s ambitious goal of securing over 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections during a campaign rally on Sunday. Speaking in support of Trinamool Congress candidate Mahua Moitra in Krishnanagar, Banerjee challenged the BJP to first achieve a benchmark of 200 constituencies before aiming higher.

“The BJP is boasting ‘400 paar’, but I challenge them to even reach 200 seats,” asserted Banerjee, as reported by PTI. She highlighted the BJP’s shortfall in the 2021 West Bengal assembly polls, where they fell short of their target of 200 seats and ended up with only 77, with some of their members defecting to the Trinamool Congress.

Banerjee criticized the BJP as a party of empty promises, accusing them of spreading falsehoods about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Referring to the recent notification of CAA rules by the Centre, Banerjee warned against its implementation, arguing that it would pave the way for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and jeopardize the citizenship status of legal residents.

“The CAA is a ploy to render legal citizens stateless. Once CAA is enforced, NRC will follow. We will not allow either CAA or NRC in West Bengal,” affirmed Banerjee, cautioning the public against falling for the central government’s false assurances.

Banerjee also highlighted the consequences of applying for citizenship under the CAA, cautioning that it could result in individuals being labeled as foreigners for five years. This rally marked Banerjee’s first public appearance since sustaining an injury earlier in the month, underscoring her determination to address key political issues ahead of the elections.

There is no INDIA bloc in West Bengal: Mamata Banerjee

During Sunday’s rally, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee leveled accusations against the CPI(M) and Congress, alleging their collaboration with the BJP in the state.

Dismissing the existence of an INDIA alliance in West Bengal, Banerjee asserted, “The CPI(M) and Congress are aligning with the BJP in Bengal.” She emphasized her formation of the INDIA bloc and indicated a post-election review of its dynamics.

Banerjee urged voters to refrain from supporting candidates of the Left-Congress-ISF alliance, cautioning that such votes would essentially benefit the BJP.

In a show of support for Trinamool Congress candidate Mahua Moitra, Banerjee commended her parliamentary efforts against the BJP. “Despite Mahua Moitra being elected by you, she was unjustly expelled,” Banerjee lamented. “We have nominated her again from this seat. Mahua was ousted for being the most vocal opponent of the BJP in parliament. It is incumbent upon you to ensure her resounding victory.”

Banerjee’s remarks underscored the political tensions and strategic alliances shaping the electoral landscape in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming elections.
