Make In India At 12: PM Modi Highlights Growth In Electronics, Defence And Mobile Production

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday highlighted the achievements of the Make in India initiative as it completed 12 years, pointing to increased domestic production, investment and exports across several sectors.

In a post on X, PM Modi said the initiative had resulted in more products being made in India, greater investment and increased exports, with the transformation visible across sectors.

Electronics production has risen nearly seven-fold, from ₹1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to ₹13.11 lakh crore in 2025-26.

Indigenous defence production increased from ₹46,429 crore in 2014-15 to a record ₹1.78 lakh crore in 2025-26.

Launched on September 25, 2014, Make in India aimed to establish the country as a global hub for manufacturing, design and innovation.

The initiative currently covers 27 sectors, including 15 manufacturing and 12 services sectors.

Mobile phone production has recorded significant growth, rising around 33-fold from ₹18,000 crore to ₹6.27 lakh crore during the period. India is now the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer by volume.

According to government data, vehicle production reached 31.03 million units in 2024-25, marking a 33 per cent increase over 2014-15.

Several vehicle categories recorded higher production compared with 2020-21.

The pharmaceutical sector has expanded, ranking third globally by volume and 11th by value. Its annual turnover reached ₹4,71,898 crore in 2024-25, with a 9.5 per cent compound annual growth rate since 2020-21.

Domestic medical device manufacturing rose 48.2 per cent to ₹41,500 crore in 2024-25 from ₹28,000 crore in 2019-20.

Earlier, PM Modi urged Seva Yatris to work towards a self-reliant India with determination and a spirit of service.
